Within the scope of the Regional Development Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project, healthy milking and quality cheese making training was organized for women farmers in cooperation with Energo-Pro, the operator of Muş Alparslan-2 Dam.
During the training given by Dr. Faculty Member Onur Şahin, Head of the Department of Animal Production and Technologies of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, milking and cheese making guides, breast dipping container and disinfectant for udder hygiene, cheese fermentation boiler for cheese making, food thermometer and calcium chloride were distributed to women farmers by the stakeholder organization Energo-Pro. After the cheeses made within the scope of the training are matured in brine, they will participate in the Best Cheese Competition to be organized in October in cooperation with our University and Energo-Pro.
Şahin thanked our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican and Vice Rector and Dean of Faculty of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ for their support to the training activities carried out by our university within the scope of the Regional Development Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project.
In his statement, Karadağ stated that “Cattle Breeding” training was given within the scope of these trainings before and said, “Our university was selected as a Pilot State University in the field of Animal Husbandry within the scope of Regional Development Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project on December 12, 2018. In this context, in order to increase the professional competencies of animal breeders, 810 women farmers engaged in milk production were given practical trainings on dairy cattle breeding and quality milk production with an activity carried out jointly with the Breeding Cattle Breeders Association in previous years. In addition, joint survey and identification studies were conducted with the Eastern Anatolia Project Regional Development Administration (DAP), DAKA and the Producer Union to determine the current situation and problems in the province in order to ensure that raw milk is collected in the cold chain and marketed to industry.
The on-site training work, which started in Akpınar Village, which was selected as a pilot for cheese making, consists of two stages: theoretical and practical. Seventeen volunteer women farmers engaged in cattle or sheep breeding in the village participated in the training. If the results are successful, it is planned to carry out the training in other pilot villages.”
