Honey Harvest at Muş Alparslan University

31.07.2023 08:30

Scientific studies and honey production continue rapidly in the honey bee colonies, which were included in our university five years ago. The honey produced by the bees that spent June and July in the highland (1988 mt) lands of Altınova town of Muş was harvested.

The honey harvest was organized by the Faculty of Applied Sciences Beekeeping Unit. Assist. Mustafa Güneşdoğdu and our university Faculty of Applied Sciences Assist. Assist. Yasir Tufan, Agricultural Engineer Ahmet Furkan Küçüktatıl, Zeki Arifoğlu and Hamit Pülat. Speaking about the subject, Ss. Assist. Güneşdoğdu stated that they worked with the Caucasian (Apis mellifera L.) breed, the native bee of our country, and that the yield per colony was low compared to last year (2022).

Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Vice Rector of Muş Alparslan University and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, stated that the amount of precipitation fell too much in the spring months this year, and with the warming of the weather, endemic plants and flowers in vegetation bloomed rapidly with the effect of extreme temperatures. Karadağ stated that in order for this situation to continue the plant generation, the flowers quickly set seeds and thus the flowering period lasted very little, adding that honey production decreased compared to previous years.

Researcher. Assist. Prof. Dr. Güneşdoğdu expressed his thanks to our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican and Vice Rector and Dean of Faculty of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ for their support.
